Guest Speaker – Lectures on History
Dr. Peter Hammond is a Historian and author with doctoral degrees in Missiology (Whitefield Theological Seminary, USA) and Divinity (Antioch Bible College Institute and Seminary, USA).
He has served persecuted churches and pioneered evangelistic outreaches into Mozambique, Angola, Sudan, Rwanda, Congo and Nigeria. Hammond conducted marathon sessions of history talks on various themes such as South African History, the revival of Andrew Murry in 1860, the establishment of the Hugenote Kollege and its fruits, William Wilberforce’s (1759-1833) extended and tedious struggle (1789-1807) to abolish the slave trade, David Livingston’s travels and confrontation with slave traders, Emily Hobhouse’s service during the Boer War, the Reformation and its impact on society and the second World War. These lectures formed part of a history module aligned with CAPS-related themes. The sessions were lively and packed with information, PowerPoints and discussions. Attendees were awarded book prizes on correct answers or rendering interesting questions or debates. Hammond stressed the importance of knowing and fulfilling one’s calling by relating various historical biographies.
