Maths Lesson at a local Primary School
On 28 April 2026, Cedar visited Khomba Primary School once again - this time to present a math lesson prepared by the Foundation Phase students.
This visit provided a highly positive and enriching experience for both the students and Grade 2 learners. The maths activities — ranging from abacus counting to ten frames on train wagons and interactive number line exercises — were creative and fun. Learners responded enthusiastically, showing confidence, eagerness to participate, and a clear enjoyment of hands-on, movement-based learning.
The station-rotation approach worked well in exposing learners to a variety of strategies for solving addition problems, while the use of simple techniques such as songs, movement, and repetition was observed to enhance engagement and understanding. The presence of both English and isiZulu speakers in groups, along with support from teachers on site, helped bridge language gaps and ensured inclusivity.
For the student teachers, the visit was insightful and rewarding, offering valuable exposure to a rural classroom context and reinforcing the importance of adaptability, teamwork, and clear communication. Overall, the outreach was a meaningful and memorable experience that underscored the impact of engaging, well-structured teaching and the value of collaborative learning in the foundation phase.
