Educating teachers is a multifaceted task. The vision of Cedar International Academy NPC (Cedar) is to train teachers, equipping them with the necessary skills to make a difference in their communities. The spiritual grounding and growth of a person is at the core of all teaching and learning experiences. Within this context, students are provided quality education in a safe and supportive environment to encourage spiritual and academic progress. Cedar is a distinctly Christian organisation, founded on the understanding that the Bible is the Word of God and the basis for every activity and behaviour.

Programmes offered at Cedar

Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching

The Bachelor of Education (BEd) in Foundation Phase Teaching provides a comprehensive educational experience covering educational knowledge, theory, methodology, and practical workplace learning enabling the learner to be a vibrant and impactful educator. The course provides a grounding of pedagogical knowledge and subject content covered in all subject areas within the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements for Foundation Phase Teaching, equipping students to deliver its content competently and effectively.

This course has been accredited by the HEQC (Higher Education Quality Committee). The qualification is registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on NQF Level 7 (ID 115553). The program has been approved by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

Bachelor of Education in Senior & FET Phase Teaching

The Bachelor of Education in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching is a comprehensive educational programme that equips students with the skills and competence required of graduate teachers. The course covers content knowledge, educational theory, methodology, and practical learning, enabling the learner to be vibrant and effective in today's diverse classrooms. The course offers rigorous grounding of Senior Phase and FET subjects, establishing students in knowledge and skills to meet the demands of secondary education.

The course develops foundational knowledge in educational studies, explores knowledge application and introduces students to research skills. The Senior Phase and Further Education Training Teaching course involves practical skill development through workplace learning experiences.

This course has been accredited by the HEQC (Higher Education Quality Committee). The qualification is registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on NQF Level 7 (ID 119073). The program has been approved by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

Minimum Laptop Specifications

To be able to study successfully and efficiently at Cedar, you will need a suitable laptop. The following minimum specifications are required (higher specifications are preferred):

  • at least a processor i3 or equivalent (like the AMD Ryzen second example)
  • at least 256GB SSD
  • at least 8GB of RAM
  • 15.6'' screen size
  • must be able to run Windows 11

Enrolment application

No enrolment fee is required when submitting your Enrolment Form. However, an enrolment application does not guarantee a place at Cedar, as it is only the first step in the enrolment process. Should your enrolment be successful, Cedar will issue an enrolment offer for your consideration after the interview and examination stage.

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees are charged at R254.00 per module credit. Each module has a credit value according to the study load of the module. Modules carry 8, 10, 12 or 15 credits. Invoices are issued after semester registration has been completed.

If additional modules are taken due to a pass mark not being attained or to study more widely, individual modules are charged at R254.00 per module credit (tuition only).

Additional Costs

Students are expected to provide and maintain their own laptop for their studies. Additional items such as camps, field trips, extracurricular activities, textbooks, and annual class photos, are not covered by the above tuition fees. Please note that students must provide their own stationery. Travel expenses related to Work Integrated Learning placements are included in the annual fee.

Payment of Fees

Payments of fees can be made by cash or direct deposit into Cedar’s bank account (bank details appear above and on Fee Statements). If paying by card, a card transaction fee may be applicable. Your preferred method of payment can be indicated on the Fee Commitment form. Any costs incurred in collecting outstanding fees will be your responsibility.

Cedar takes no responsibility for money prior to receipting. If making payments at the office, please wait for a receipt.

Please note that Cedar provides pre-paid education and accommodation. Students will not be registered in a module unless the relevant payments are made. Examinations will not be available if tuition and/or accommodation fees are in arrears.
