Mathematics Displays

For the second consecutive year, the fourth-year BEd Foundation Phase students designed a Mathematics display that demonstrated their integration of subject knowledge, pedagogical approaches, classroom management techniques, effective use of diverse resources, and understanding of assessment strategies.

Building on the success of 2024, the 2025 Mathematics display advanced the initiative by incorporating interactive activities with Grade 1–3 learners from Domino Servite School. Each student was assigned a specific grade and facilitated a one-hour session designed to provide authentic, age-appropriate, and engaging learning experiences. These sessions featured meaningful, practical, and enjoyable activities that connected theory to practice. Assessors from DSS and Cedar collaborated to evaluate both the quality of the displays and the effectiveness of the interactive activities. This initiative strengthened the objectives of the Work-Integrated Learning program by enabling students to apply pedagogical principles in real-world contexts.

Student Feedback on this Learning Experience

I really enjoyed designing and painting the math posters, as well as finding engaging activities for the learners. It was inspiring to see the creativity in the other 4th-year presentations—there are so many different ways to teach and make learning fun! Interacting with the learners was especially rewarding, and watching them enjoy the educational activities made the experience even more exciting. - Jessica Celick

I thoroughly enjoyed the practical learning opportunity of planning and creating a mathematics display for Grade 2. I want to thank Cedar International Academy and Domino Servite School for making the experience so worth-while by allowing the Grade 2 learners to come view and interact with the display. - Ria Williams

The mathematics display was an interesting and enriching project. I enjoyed the practical, hands-on side of creating posters and manipulatives. The day the learners came to view the display, I was very nervous, but I soon realised how much fun it was to guide them through my project. I am thankful to Cedar for making this experience possible. - Anneke Theron

The maths exhibition was a lot of fun! Grade 1 was allocated to me. I was required to display mathematical concepts and design activities for each of the five mathematical domains. On the day, Domino Servite’s Grade 1 learners attended the exhibition and took part in a presentation and various enjoyable activities. I learnt that having a simple but organised display counts more than having an exuberant yet disorganised display. - Fanny Swolfs
